Unexpected Perks....

Ok so we all know by now that I think having a baby is the best thing since the invention of the drive thru starbucks, but did you know about the many additional perks you get when you have a baby of your very own? Obviously Zechariah brings me so much joy just by breathing alone, but here are just a few unexpected perks that have come along with being a mommy:

5. Biceps...yup that's right, the girl with no upper body strength has come to have her very own little guns, compliments of toting that car seat carrier around and lifting it in and out of shopping carts for the last 5 months. Think about it, at the gym I could only curl 5 lbs maybe 8 lbs and here I am lifting at least 20 lbs (Zech is 15 lbs and that car seat alone has to weight 5 lbs , it's so darn heavy!) in and out, up and down on a pretty regular basis! And when you have multiple errands ie the bank, the post office the grocery store...well Arnold Schwarzeneger in his hey day got nothing on me in the bench pressing department!

4. And speaking of exercise, you also burn more calories doing housework, walking around, and doing anything else you can do with a baby in the bjorn! It's like putting those little ankle weights on when you do your cardio, but only this is better! You strap a 15 lb baby to your body and wha la...instantaneously you burn more calories!

3. You have to slow down! This has been nice for a girl like me, who always kept her social calender packed. But now, with Zech, staying home with him for the day is the real treat. I have been working on limiting the social events we attend, although this month has been a little crazier then usual. It's nice to know you will be home by a certain time at least because the baby needs to go to bed. Which usually equates to me getting to bed as well. I think for the first time in my life I have been getting 8-10 hours every night. Which is crazy when you have a baby right? Every one says you get no sleep. I honestly have to say, we sleep better most days then not. Last night was a not...but we won't talk about that here :)!

2. Making new friends and reconnecting with "old" friends who were a mommy before you! I actually have a million friends. And I love to socialize (see #3 above :) so I have REALLY enjoyed getting to know new moms, as well as talking to my old friends who have had kids for awhile about the many challenges and wonders of being a parent. It's so fun! And there's just so much to learn when you're a new mom that chatting with these women is like soaking in knowledge from the tree of baby expertise! And believe me, I totally remember being the girl who was like "Oh no, not the baby talk" when I was around women who had kids and I didn't. I use to think that women should have more interesting things to discuss then to sit around talking the color and consistency of their baby's poop but seriously....this kinda s&%t (no pun intended) is now my idea of stimulating conversation!!! LOL!

1. Ok and here you have it...the #1 GREATEST unexpected perk to having a baby ever....drum roll please..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
You get to use the CAR POOL LANE all the time!!!! How freakin awesome is that?! And for you non-Californian readers of my blog, take my word for it, this is a big deal! I don't mind driving hardly anywhere now because I can just jump in the carpool and wave to all the losers in the regular lanes sitting in traffic behind me! LOL! I love it!

So although these are not directly related to the post above, some pics for your viewing pleasure because I know you come here for the Zechy and not the great philosophies of crazy ol' Norina :)!

He is trying to crawl so bad! Right now he gets up on all fours and rocks, it's hilarious! I'll try to catch that on video sometime and post it.

The infamous bjorn! AKA mommy cardio carrier!

Now check out that little hat he's wearing above...here's a flashback from 4 days old wearing the same hat! Compare pics and seek how much he/his head has grown! (btw, Zech has like 57387539 hats/beenies but this one has always been my favorite, hence why I keep putting it on him!)

My goodness he's beautiful.

And a request if you could....your bedroom is in those pics right? Can you take a picture of your bed all made up? I have just recently bought fabric to make a new duvet cover and would love to glean more inspiration from yours....it seems along the same lines as what I purchased. You can email it to me if you prefer.... =) TY!!!

I love the carpool lane, too! I think it's awesome that we can use it. Too bad we couldn't use it when we were prego and had to pee really bad! I loved my bjorn as well. I used it forever...I felt like I had two extra arms when the kiddos were in it. Can't wait to see that video of Zechy crawling. Talk to you soon!
